Singer Lim Hyung-joo Named Voting Member of Grammys

South Korean singer Lim Hyung-joo has been named a voting member of the Grammy Awards.

Lim's management agency DGNcom said Wednesday that the 31-year-old was recently accepted as a new member of the Recording Academy, which hosts the Grammy Awards. The agency said it is the first time that an Asian operatic pop artist has been named a voting member, which is the highest of all membership grades.

Members also have the right to submit their albums for consideration to the Grammys. Lim was granted a five-year term as a voting member.

DGNcom said Lim was recognized for his musical ability, artistry and recognition on the world stage over a career that spans 20 years.

Lim, who will begin his mandatory military service on Monday, said he is happy and honored by the appointment. He said he will play a part in informing the world about South Korea's culture and the arts.
