Korean Skater Fails to Grab Medal in ISU Junior Figure Skating Championships

South Korea’s promising male figure skater, Cha Jun-hwan, has failed to grab a medal in the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships after his attempt to nail a quadruple salchow jump ended unsuccessfully.

In the championship’s free skating event held on Thursday at the Taipei Arena in Taiwan, Cha received a total score of 160-point-eleven points. The previous day, Cha had gotten 82-point-34 points in the short program, the highest individual record recognized by the ISU.

As a result, Cha’s total score for the championships added up to 242-point-45 points, placing Cha fifth in the medal tally or two-point-98 points higher than his personal best posted last September.

Vincent Zhou of the U.S. took the gold with a score of 258 point-eleven points, a new record in the championships. Dmitri Aliev of Russia won the silver and Alexander Samarin, also of Russia, grabbed the bronze medal.
