Korea Ranks 10th in the World for Gender Equality

South Korea ranked tenth out of 188 countries in terms of gender equality. This is according to the United Nations Development Programme(UNDP) which released the results in the latest Gender Inequality Index(GII).

The index measures health, women's rights and labor participation of women. The closer the figure is to zero the more equal women are. South Korea scored point-067 following Germany at point-066. First place Switzerland scored point-04.

South Korea's ranking shot up 13 notches from last year and is the highest in Asia. However, the GII ranking of Korea is in contrast to other indicators. The British magazine The Economist ranked Korea at the bottom of 29 OECD member countries in terms of glass ceiling discrimination.
