S. Korea's Go Player Park Wins by Resignation Over DeepZenGo

South Korea’s number one-ranking Go master Park Jeong-hwan has won by resignation against Japan’s artificial intelligence(AI) program, DeepZenGo, in the first World Go Championship held in Osaka, Japan.

The AI program on Wednesday baffled the nine-dan professional with its airtight analysis and dominated the game until halfway through the match. But DeepZenGo began to waver when Park made an unexpected move and made a series of errors toward the end of the match.

Equipped with two CPUs, DeepZenGo is considered to be weak in ending matches compared to Google’s AlphaGo.

The Japanese AI program has recorded two losses in the championship. Park, who recorded two wins in the championship, will face China’s Mi Yuting, a nine-dan player who also posted two wins, in the finals on Thursday.
