Thai University to Open Korean Language Major

Chulalongkorn University in Thailand will open a Korean language major for undergraduate students next year, according to the Korea Education Institution on Thursday.

Thailand's oldest university has also developed its own textbook tailored for Thai learners studying Korean, which is set to be officially published next year.

The Thai education authority has decided to adopt Korean language as an official subject for college exams starting in 2018, prompting many Thai schools to include the Korean language in their curriculum.

Chief of the Korea Education Institution Yoon So-young said 25 Thai schools are offering Korean language for the first time this year, raising the total number of schools offering Korean to 107.
