Domestically Developed Nuclear Fuel Passes Int'l Test

A domestically developed nuclear fuel plate has passed an international performance test.

The Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute said on Wednesday that its uranium molybdenum(U-Mo) nuclear fuel plate has been found stable and reliable in an irradiation test conducted at the Advanced Test Reactor in the U.S.

The institute expects the new fuel technology will help the country lead in the market of nuclear fuel, creating a new export market worth 20 billion won a year.

The fuel plate will be used for research reactors to be built in Gijang County in Busan.
