As the WannaCry ransomware cyberattacks are causing problems around the globe, South Korea is not an exception but the extent of the damage is minimal.
The Korea Internet and Security Agency(KISA) said on Sunday that a total of seven South Korean companies reported about the damage over the weekend, and four actually needed technical assistance.
Local Web security firms assessed over four-thousand South Korean internet addresses were affected by the malware, raising the concern there could be more South Korean entities or individuals to suffer from the cyberattacks.
The attacks concurrently took place in more than 100 countries around the world, crippling or shutting down tens of thousands of computer systems in hospitals, companies and government agencies.
The malware codenamed as WannaCry/WanaCryptOr 2.0 is spreading directly through internet networks, capitalizing on the vulnerability of the Microsoft Windows operating system.
