"The Merciless" Tops S. Korean Box Office

South Korea’s new crime-action fiction, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, topped local box office rankings on the first day of its release.
 
According to the Korean Film Council on Thursday, "The Merciless" directed by Byun Sung-hyun drew an audience of 95-thousand-261 from across the country on Wednesday when it hit local theaters.
 
The film starring Sol Kyung-gu and Im Si-wan revolves around two prison mates. It was invited to the midnight screening at the Cannes Film Festival that kicked off on Wednesday.
 
The Hollywood movie, “Get Out,” was the second most viewed movie in Korean cinemas on Wednesday, watched by 92-thousand-121 people.
 
“King Arthur: Legend of the Sword” came in third, selling 31-thousand-66 tickets on the first day it was released in the country.
