S. Korea Beats Argentina to Advance to Round of 16 at U-20 World Cup

South Korea’s young national football team defeated Argentina 2-1 during a FIFA U-20 World Cup match on Tuesday, securing a spot in the next round.

In their second match of Group A at Jeonju World Cup Stadium, Lee Seung-woo and Paik Seung-ho each scored a goal for the host team in the first half. Argentina only managed to narrow the gap in the second half when Marcelo Torres scored.

Their second consecutive victory, following a 3-0 win against Guinea, means South Korea has jumped to the top of Group A and will compete in the round of 16 regardless of the remaining group match against England, being played in Suwon on Friday.

It is the first time in four years that South Korea has clinched a place in the round of 16 at the FIFA U-20 World Cup since the Turkey edition in 2013, when the team advanced to as far as the quarterfinals.
