A rare discovery of Buddhist scriptures has the Buddhist community excited.

The Research Institute of Buddhist Cultural Heritage said Wednesday it found the scriptures in a statue’s head.

The discovery came while analyzing a 3D-CT scan of the Gunchil Buddha Statue at Silsangsa Temple in Jeolla province.

The scriptures are believed to date back to the late 14th century Goryeo Dynasty period.
 
The institute said there are only four other similar scriptures in the country.
