Red Cross officials said Wednesday they will begin choosing this week 100 South Koreans who will be temporarily reunited with their North Korean relatives in September for the first time since the Korean War.

At the latest round of Cabinet-level talks in Seoul earlier this month, the two divided Korean states agreed to hold a new round of reunions for separated family members around Chusok, the Korean full-moon holiday in mid-September.

The family reunions are one of the prominent reconciliation projects launched by the two sides since the historic summit of their leaders in 2000. They have since held seven rounds of reunions.
