A documentary film about late former President Roh Moo-hyun has attracted more than one million viewers to local theaters.
The distributor of the film said that “Our President” directed by Lee Chang-jae reached the one-million milestone at 3 p.m. on Saturday, ten days after the release. The moviw reached the milestone in the shortest period of time in Korean documentary history.
This is compared to the most successful Korean documentary film “My Love, Don’t Cross that River” which attracted more than one million viewers in 18 days.
The movie about the late president drew more than 78-thousand viewers on the opening day, on May 25, setting a record for documentaries that cover historical issues. It passed its break-even point by gathering 200-thousand spectators on the third day.
The documentary depicts the drama surrounding Roh’s road from becoming the most popular candidate to being the least favorite one with a two percent support rating at the beginning of the 2002 presidential election.
