Moon Proposes FIFA World Cup in Northeast Asia in 2030

President Moon Jae-in has met with FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who is visiting South Korea for the U-20 World Cup.

During talks at the presidential office on Monday, President Moon suggested that holding the FIFA World Cup in Northeast Asia in 2030 would help promote peace on the Korean Peninsula and in the region, and asked for Infantino's support and attention to the matter.

Moon said soccer is South Koreans’ most favorite sport and that he personally believes it is one of the most equal and democratic sports. The president also pointed out that it has even contributed to inter-Korean relations.

Infantino responded that soccer is great and so is South Korea, adding that the message that can be sent to the world through the sport is also powerful and important.
