The Korea Football Association(KFA) has dismissed the national football team coach, Uli Stielike, after Team Korea fared poorly in 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The KFA’s Technical Committee convened a meeting in a training center for the national team in Paju on Thursday and decided to dismiss Stielike due to Team Korea’s poor performance of late.
The German native took the helm of the national team in September 2014. He led the team to victory in the semifinals of the Asian Cup in January 2015 and in the finals of the East Asia Cup in August of the same year. However, such a streak of success failed to continue in the latest World Cup qualifiers.
With four victories, three losses and a draw, South Korea is only a point ahead of Uzbekistan, and will play its two remaining matches against the toughest opponents in the group.
Team Korea will play Iran in Seoul on August 31st and Uzbekistan in Tashkent on September fifth.
