IOC to Provide 5G, VR, Drone Contents at PyeongChang Games

The International Olympic Committee(IOC) said Thursday that Intel Corporation's cutting edge technologies will merge with sports for the first time at next year's PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

Intel is expected to showcase fifth generation mobile communications technology and introduce virtual reality to TV broadcasting for the first time for a more vivid experience for viewers worldwide watching the games at home.

Also in Pyeongchang, drones will be flown to capture unseen images. A platform equipped with 360 degree angle screen reproduction technology will be installed in all stadiums for fans both on site and at home to enjoy an exhilarating viewing experience.

Platforms involving artificial intelligence will also be featured during the PyeongChang games.

U.S. firm Intel is the latest addition and the 13th official sponsor of the IOC. Others include Samsung, Toyota, Omega, Coca-Cola, General Electric, Visa and Panasonic. IOC official sponsors hold exclusive marketing rights at the Olympics.
