The Korea Meteorological Administration said Tuesday that typhoon Nanmadol is moving north, as parts of the nation have already been battered by monsoon rains.
Just one day after its development, the typhoon reached waters northeast of Taiwan. Given its fast speed, it is likely to reach Japan’s Kyushu by Wednesday after passing through waters southeast of Jeju Island.
The open sea south of Jeju is expected to be directly affected by the typhoon from Tuesday night.
The weather agency predicted that the inland areas of the central region, northern parts of North Gyeongsang Province and areas near Mount Jiri will see up to 150 millimeters of precipitation through Thursday.
From Thursday, the central region is expected to see a break in heavy rainfall but southern regions will see rain until Thursday.
The agency that rain is again expected throughout the nation on Friday.
