A recent survey shows nearly 90 percent of teachers at primary and secondary schools in the country are in support of the government’s plan to change elite high schools to general high schools.
Civic group Good Teacher, on Wednesday, announced the result of a survey on 855 teachers at elementary through high schools nationwide, which asked for their opinions on cancelling the accreditation of autonomous or foreign language high schools.
Eighty-eight percent of respondents said they are supportive or very supportive of the plan, while 12 percent were opposed or very opposed to it.
Those in favor of the move mentioned difficulties at general high schools stemming from the hierarchy of schools as well as deepening class divisions as the basis of their support, while opponents said it will damage diversity in education services.
The civic group teamed with Pollster Research Joongang, which conducted the survey online between Wednesday of last week and Tuesday.
Of the respondents, 278 or 32-point-five percent were high school teachers.
The survey had a 95 percent confidence level with a margin of error of plus or minus three-point-4 percentage points.
