The World Taekwondo Hanmadang, a global festival of the Korean martial art, will kick off next year on Jeju Island, bringing together practitioners from across the globe.

Ruling Democratic Party lawmaker and member of the National Assembly’s Education, Culture, Sports, and Tourism Committee, Oh Young-hun, announced on Thursday that he received a document confirming that Jeju will host the global event in 2018.

The event will run for four days next July and will be jointly sponsored by Kukkiwon, also known as the World Taekwondo Headquarters, and Jeju Province.

The World Taekwondo Hanmadang will include competitions in 14 events as well as festivals and various cultural and civilian exchange events.

Around seven-thousand people are expected to take part in the event, including some 15-hundred participants from roughly 70 countries.
