K-pop Singing Contest & Pyeongchang Olympic Promotion Event Held in Hong Kong

A K-pop singing competition was held in Hong Kong, as the region is emerging as a Hallyu hub in Chinese-speaking countries following China’s restrictions on the spread of the Korean wave.

South Korea’s Consulate General in Hong Kong said on Monday that the K-Pop World Festival’s Hong Kong regionals were held on Sunday in the Dragon Center shopping center in the Sham Shui Po area of Kowloon.

The Hong Kong branch offices of the Korea Tourism Organization and Air Busan Company jointly sponsored the event which saw heated competition among 12 teams that passed a qualifying round online. The qualifying round, which was held two months prior the regionals, saw the participation of roughly 100 teams, or double the amount posted last year.

A team named, "Eco Dance," won first place after performing WJSN's "MoMoMo" and "Catch Me."

The winning team will compete in the K-Pop World Festival that will open in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province in September.

A flash mob event promoting the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic Winter Games was also held during the singing contest.
