20th Boryeong Mud Festival Opens

The 20th Boryeong Mud Festival has opened at Daecheon Beach in Boryeong City, South Chungcheong Province.

Under the slogan, “Go! Boryeong, Play! Mud,” the nine-day event will feature various programs prepared by Boryeong’s 16 towns, ranging from bathing in a massive mud tub to mud massages, a mud photo contest, a marathon on the mud flats, a mud sliding competition, and street parades.

The unique event will also present various concerts, street performances and tramcars.

The annual festival is famous for attracting the largest numbers of foreign visitors among local festivals.

The event drew roughly four million people last year, including 430-thousand foreigners. The festival is estimated to have enjoyed a regional economic impact worth 73 billion won last year.
