Former pitcher and manager of the Kia Tigers Sun Dong-yol has been appointed the national baseball team manager.
The Korea Baseball Organization(KBO) made the announcement on Monday, saying that Sun will lead the team through the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Sun will make his managerial debut at the inaugural Asia Professional Baseball Challenge set for November 16th to 19th at the Tokyo Dome. The new event involves South Korea, Japan and Taiwan.
He will also lead South Korea at the 2018 Asian Games, 2019 Premier 12 and 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Sun, who is considered the greatest KBO pitcher, played eleven seasons with the Tigers starting in 1985, posting a one-point-20 earned run average, with 146 wins, 40 losses and 132 saves.
Sun collect 98 saved with the Chunichi Dragons in the Nippon Professional Baseball league from 1996 to 1999.
As a manager, Sun led the Samsung Lions to win the KBO championships in 2005 and 2006.
