"The Battleship Island" Attracts 4 Million Viewers

South Korean blockbuster “The Battleship Island” has drawn over four million viewers in total since its release last Thursday.
 
According to the Korean Film Council on Monday, the war movie directed by Ryoo Seung-wan topped local box office rankings on the first weekend of its release, drawing an audience of one-point-93 million on Saturday and Sunday.
 
The film has attracted four-point-06 million viewers in total since its release, surpassing the four million mark in the shortest time among movies released this year.
 
“The Battleship Island” refers to Hashima Island off the cost of Nagasaki in Japan. It tells the story of how Koreans were forced into harsh labor at an underground coal mining factory on the island during Japan’s colonization of Korea in the 1940s.
