Kang Full Cartoon Street Wins 2017 Asian Townscape Award

A colorful street in Seoul named after local cartoonist Kang Full has won the 2017 Asian Townscape Award from the UN-Habitat Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific.

The award seeks to honor efforts made by Asian cities and organizations for the improvement, revitalization and creation of beautiful and harmonious townscapes. The review criteria includes harmonious coexistence with regional environment, safety, convenience and sustainability.

This year, 13 out of 53 submissions from eight Asian countries received awards.

The Kang Full Cartoon Street in eastern Seoul is a place with over 50 different murals painted on the walls and telephone poles. The street was created with joint efforts by the cartoonist, the local residents and the local office in 2014.

The award ceremony will be held on September 28th in the Chinese city of Yinchuan.
