The South Korean movie “A Taxi Driver” has drawn two-point-two million viewers on the first weekend of its release.
According to the Korean Film Council on Monday, the movie starring Song Kang-ho topped local box office rankings, drawing an audience of two-point-21 million on Saturday and Sunday at about 19-hundred screens.
The film has attracted four-point-36 million viewers in total since its release last Wednesday.
South Korean blockbuster “The Battleship Island” came in second, drawing 504-thousand viewers over the weekend.
Animated films “Despicable Me 3” and “Detective Conan: Crimson Love Letter” ranked third and fourth, respectively, followed by “Dunkirk,” a film by Christopher Nolan.
“A Taxi Driver” directed by Jang Hoon describes the experiences of a Seoul cab driver who incidentally gets involved in the 1980 Gwangju Uprising, while taking a German journalist to the southwestern city.
