The city of Suwon in Gyeonggi Province will host an event to mark the International Memorial Day for Victims of Japanese Military Sexual Slavery.

The fifth annual event will begin at 11 a.m. next Monday near a peace statue commemorating sex slavery victims located inside the Suwon Olympic Park.

The August 14th memorial day for these victims forced into sex slavery was designated in 2012 during an Asian conference addressing the Japanese sex slavery issue.

It was on August 14th when late South Korean victim Kim Hak-sun who died in 1997 gave her first testimony about Tokyo's wartime crimes.

Thanks to Kim's courage, other victims followed suit and shared their testimonies which put a spotlight on the issue.
