Officials in Seoul said Friday a top North Korean sports official will fly to South Korea Aug. 17 to participate in the Daegu Universiade and discuss inter-Korean taekwondo exchange programs with his South Korean counterpart Kim Un-yong.
Chang Ung, who is also a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), will till travel along with the communist country's 510-member delegation to the Aug. 21-31 Summer Universiade in Daegu, a city 300km southeast of Seoul.
He is scheduled to fly back to Pyongyang on Aug. 25 via Beijing after staying in Seoul and Daegu for nine days.
Chang is expected to give his official position on allegations that Kim, vice president of the IOC, sabotaged South Korean city of Pyeongchang's bid to host the 2010 Winter Olympics.
The North Korean defended Kim in two faxed messages last month.
Kim was elected IOC vice president the day after Pyeongchang narrowly lost to Vancouver, Canada, in the final round of balloting at an IOC meeting in early July. It touched off allegations that he campaigned against Pyeongchang since the IOC does not usually give top positions to candidates whose countries have just been chosen to host the Olympics.
