Hundreds of foreign students studying on South Korean government scholarships will earn their academic degrees this month.
The Ministry of Education and the National Institute for International Education said on Wednesday that a total of 446 recipients of the Global Korea Scholarship(GKS) will graduate from South Korean colleges, including 414 enrolled in master’s and doctoral programs, later this month.
The students from 107 countries have been studying in 57 universities across the country.
Launched in 1967, the GKS has selected around 800 foreign applicants every year and assisted them in earning college degrees in South Korea. Prominent recipients of the scholarship program include former Ghanaian Employment and Social Welfare Minister Moses Asaga and the developer of the orthopedic shoe brand MBT Karl Muller.
A ministry official said the GKS recipients are global talents and are expected to play a significant role in enhancing friendships between South Korea and their own countries.
