Team Korea Advance to 9th Consecutive World Cup Tournament

The South Korean national soccer team has secured a place in the 2018 FIFA World Cup tournament to be held in Russia.

South Korea finished their Group A game against Uzbekistan on Tuesday in a scoreless draw, but still managed to qualify for the tournament.

This is largely thanks to Iran and Syria finishing their final in a 2-2 draw also on Tuesday.

South Korea completed the entire qualifiers with 15 points from four wins, three draws and three losses.

In Group A, Iran also advanced to the World Cup with 22 points. Syria will face Group B's third-ranked Australia in a playoff.

To the disappointment of fans, the Korean squad finished five away games during the qualifiers without a single victory, recording two draws and three losses.

Nonetheless, the national team led by head coach Shin Tae-yong will be making its ninth consecutive trip to the World Cup since the 1986 games held in Mexico.
