New Training Center Opens Doors to Elite S. Korean Athletes

A new athletes’ village that will house the members of South Korea’s national sports teams has opened its doors.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Sports and Olympic Committee jointly held an opening ceremony on Wednesday for the training complex in Jincheon County, North Chungcheong Province.

Around two-thousand people attended the event, including Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon, Culture Minister Do Jong-hwan and the committee’s president Lee Kee-heung.

In a congratulatory speech, Prime Minister Lee noted the contributions made by the outgoing athletes’ village in Taeneung in northern Seoul to the development of the country’s sports, and expressed hope the Jincheon Athletes’ Village will help make further advancements.

Committee president Lee said the new complex is optimized for sports training, but said it will be augmented to meet the needs of the athletes.
