The U.S. military urged the government Friday to prosecute a dozen students who forced their way into one of its shooting ranges.

In a news release, the 8th U.S. Army expressed its strong support for the rights to peaceful assembly and free speech, yet strongly condemned illegal trespassing onto its military installations.

On Thursday, 12 university students forced their way into the Rodriguez Range Complex in Pocheon, about 50 kilometers northeast of Seoul. The students burned American flags and climbed on top of a U.S. armored vehicle before being led away by military authorities.

Seoul's Defense Ministry, on its part, expressed regret over the students' actions.
