A local research institute said Monday the national and Incheon metropolitan governments will have to come up with 14.7 trillion won (US$12.4 billion) to cover the expenses for construction of the Incheon Free Economic Zone.

The figures released by the Incheon Development Institute (IDI) showed the development projects for the Songdo, Yeongjongdo and Cheongna areas will require 8.1 trillion, 2.6 trillion and 3.9 trillion won, respectively.

The expenses do NOT cover construction of a third expressway linking Seoul and Incheon and the railway linking the Incheon International Airport in Yeongjongdo to downtown Incheon and Seoul.

Out of the total expenses, Incheon City is expected to assume responsibility for 6.7 trillion won.
