Official figures showed Tuesday that South Korea's trade imbalance with Japan is ballooning and may reach the highest level ever this year.

Figures compiled by the Korea International Trade Association and the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy had South Korea's trade deficit with Japan totaling nearly 10 billion dollars in the Jan. 1st-July 20th period, up more than 20 percent from the same period last year.

Notably, the deficit with Japan in the aforementioned period was bigger than surpluses with China ($5.46 billion) and the United States ($3.61 billion) combined.
