Written: 2003-08-14 00:00:00Updated: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

A group of legislators has introduced a bill calling for the launch of a five-year plan to ferret out Koreans who collaborated with Japanese colonial rulers.

The bill signed by one-hundred-54 ruling and opposition legislators calls for forming a fact-finding committee to investigate pro-Japanese sympathizers and compile a report on them for historical records.

The bill defines pro-Japanese conduct as serving as officers in the Japanese Army, encouraging Koreans to adopt Japanese names, praising the Japanese government and producing or providing military equipment for Japanese rulers.

The bill coincides with the 58th anniversary Friday of Korea's liberation from Japanese colonial rule.
