The ministry of Science and Technology said Thursday it is considering inviting Britain's Warwick University to open a branch school in South Korea.

Warwick University is known for its advanced research in telematics, a technology that can be applied to mobile telecommunications and computers to unravel traffic jams, guide drivers through unfamiliar terrain and curb pollution.

A ministry official stated that the proposed opening was aimed at aiding South Korea in its quest to become an economic hub of Northeast Asia, adding that the plan was still on the drawing board, and that it may be some time before the branch school would actually open.
