IOC Supports N. Korea's Participation in Olympics While Respecting Sanctions

The International Olympic Committee(IOC) is supporting North Korea's participation in the PyeongChang Winter Olympics within the boundaries of respecting UN sanctions on North Korea.

The U.S. international broadcaster Voice of America said Thursday that it received an e-mail from the IOC public relations office which stated the IOC's support for Pyongyang's participation in the 2018 Winter Olympics.

The IOC said it has concluded talks with the International Ski Federation and the International Skating Union regarding shouldering of costs for North Korean athletes to attend Olympic events and training camps.

A North Korean figure skating couple ranked sixth in a global tournament in September and secured a ticket to compete in PyeongChang.
