S. Korea Wins First Team Sprint Gold at ISU World Cup

South Korea has won a gold medal for the first time in the team sprint event at the ISU Speed Skating World Cup.

The trio of Kim Min-sun, Kim Hyun-yung and Park Seung-hi won the team sprint Ladies event on Sunday at the second leg of the ISU World Cup Speed Skating series in Stavanger, Norway with a time of one minute-28-point-09 seconds.

The Korean trio, which had previously grabbed a bronze last week at the first leg of the World Cup in the Netherlands, also ranked number one in the World Cup rankings after winning a total of 170 points.

The men's team, meanwhile, failed to secure a medal after finishing fifth among nine teams.

The team sprint event consists of a three-member team finishing three laps on a 400-meter track. One skater withdraws from the track after each lap, leaving only one skater to finish. The event is not yet an Olympic sport.
