History teachers from South Korea and Japan will soon discuss cooperation on a possible joint history textbook, in order to paint a more accurate picture of the past history involving the two countries.
The Daegu Branch office of the National Teachers' Union announced Saturday it will hold a coordination meeting with 20 Japanese history teachers belonging to the Hiroshima teachers' union who will visit Daegu on August 18th.
The meeting is being convened in response to the revisionist history texts pushed by ultra-conservative Japanese groups in recent years that gloss over and omit mention of Japan's culpability in wartime atrocities.
The Japanese teachers also plan to pay their respects to a monument in Cheon-An city, which was erected in memory of Koreans who died after they were forcibly expatriated to provide manpower for Japan's labor force during the colonial period.
