22-Year-Old S. Korean Composer Wins Swiss Composition Award

South Korean composer Choi Jae-hyuck has won first place in the 72nd Concours de Genève in Switzerland.
 
According to the competition's organizers on Sunday, the 22 year-old musician won the award with his piece "Nocturne III for clarinet and orchestra."
 
President of the competition's composition panel Mattias Pintscher said the piece was outstanding in expression and delivery of emotions.
 
Choi is currently a student at the Julliard School in New York.
 
The second prize in composition went to 32-year old Yair Klartag from Israel while another South Korean composer, Yoon Han-kyeol, received the Audience Prize. 
 
The Geneva Competition, founded in 1939, is one of the world’s leading international music competitions, recognizing musicians in a variety of instruments, voice, conducting and chamber music.
