Son Heung-min Named AFC Asian Int'l Player of the Year

South Korea’s Son Heung-min has been named Asian International Player of the Year by the Asian Football Confederation(AFC) for his outstanding performance both at home and in the English Premier League.

It marked the second time for the Tottenham Hotspur forward to receive the award. He was first awarded the recognition in 2015.

The AFC said Wednesday that the “2016/17 season proved to be a stellar one for Son at club level, as he helped guide Tottenham to second spot in England's top-flight.”

The confederation also cited that Son “scored 21 goals in all competitions for Spurs to become the highest-scoring South Korean player in a European season.”

Son also played a crucial role in his nation’s FIFA World Cup 2018 qualification. Earlier this month in a friendly against Colombia, Son scored both goals in the 2-1 match.

The AFC named Hellas Verona’s midfielder Lee Seung-woo as its Youth Player of the Year.
