A UNESCO committee on preserving intangible cultural heritage opened its 12th round of discussions on South Korea's Jeju Island on Monday.
 
South Korea's Cultural Heritage Administration(CHA) said that the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage will be held for six days at the International Convention Center.
 
One-thousand people from 175 countries are expected to discuss how to maintain best practices and improve methods to safeguard intangible cultural heritage.
 
The committee will also consider applications from around the world for designations as intangible heritage. Candidates include Naples' art of pizza twirling and the Swiss Basel carnival.
   
The CHA says this marks the fourth time that the UNESCO committee has held a forum in Asia.
