S. Korean Athlete Wins Third Consecutive World Taekwondo Grand Prix Title

South Korean Taekwondo athlete Lee Dae-hoon was crowned the "Male Athlete of the Year" at the World Taekwondo Gala Awards ceremony on Monday.

This came after the 25-year old athelete won an unprecedented third consecutive World Taekwondo Grand Prix title the day before.

Lee topped the men's under-68 kilogram gold medal match in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, after beating Russia's Alexey Denisenko.

One-hundred-24 contestants from 42 countries participated in the Grand Prix Finals this year.

With his latest victory, Lee is the first Taekwondo athlete to achieve three titles in a row in the contest's four-year history.

Lee topped the Grand Prix Finals held in Azerbaijan last year and the finals in Mexico City in 2015.
