Annual Movie Ticket Sales Top 200 Million for Fifth Year

The accumulated number of moviegoers has surpassed the 200-million mark for the fifth consecutive year this year.

According to the Korean Film Council on Sunday, the number of moviegoers stood at 200 million, 367-thousand-700 as of Saturday, topping the landmark figure for the fifth straight year.

The country's annual ticket sales exceeded the 200-million mark for the first time in 2013 and stayed above 210 million since.

The number of people who watched Korean movies came to 97-point-eight million as of Saturday, accounting for 48-point-nine percent of the total ticket sales.

The figure is likely to surpass the 100-million mark this year, as highly anticipated Korean films are set for release from mid-December, including "Steel Rain" and "Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds."

The figure exceeded the 100-million mark for five straight years since 2012.
