Son Heung-min of Tottenham Hotspur has been named the athlete of the year by South Koreans.
In the Gallup Korea survey announced Tuesday, the 25-year-old South Korean winger at the English Premium League club garnered 38-point-one percent of the votes, ahead of Olympic figure skating champion Kim Yu-na who received 13-point-four percent.
It is his second time to be named the athlete of the year in the Gallup survey, following 2015. Last year, he was a runner-up to South Korean gymnast Son Yeon-jae.
Last month, he scored his 20th career goal in the EPL, becoming the most-scoring Asian footballer in the prestigious league. The record was previously held by Park Ji-sung, who scored 19 goals for seven seasons with Manchester United.
Son has scored seven goals for the Hotspur so far this year, including four in regular league matches.
The survey was conducted for three weeks last month and one-thousand-700 South Koreans aged 13 or older across the country were asked to choose two of their favorite athletes.
