South Korea announced Wednesday its condemnation of Tuesday's suspected terrorist bombing of the U.N. headquarters in Baghdad.

In a statement, the foreign ministry said that the terrorist bombing shocked the international community in that it targeted the United Nations, a body working for Iraq's peace and reconstruction. The statement also expressed deep condolences for the deaths of Sergio Vieira de Mello, U.N. special representative to Iraq, and other U.N. officials.

Despite the bombing, the statement continued, the international community must continue efforts for peace and safety in Iraq.

A truck laden with explosives exploded outside the U.N. compound in the Iraqi capital Tuesday, killing at least 20 people.
