Flood Warning Issued for the Imjin River

Torrential rains buffeted central provinces of the nation Sunday, prompting the government to issue a flood warning for a river flowing along the border with North Korea. On Saturday and Sunday, up to 260 millimeters of rain fell in Chorwon and other areas north of Seoul in the upper stream of the Imjin River. Weathermen forecast that the areas will receive an additional 200 millimeters of rain by Monday. A heavy rain alert is in effect for the central Gyeonggi Province. In Yeonchon, some 40 kilometers northeast of Seoul, a six-kilometer section of a road and four houses were under water, forcing the evacuation of dozes of residents.
