Chung Hyeon Reaches Australian Open Semi-Finals

Chung Hyeon beat American Tennys Sandgren in straight sets at the Australian Open to become the first South Korean tennis player to reach the semi-finals of a Grand Slam.

Chung beat Sandgren 6-4, 7-6, 6-3 in their quarter-finals match on Wednesday at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne.

The 21-year-old had beaten Alexander Zverev and former world number one Novak Djokovic on his way to the last-eight.

He will now face either Roger Federer or Tomas Berdych on Friday to clinch a spot in the final.

With Wednesday’s victory, Chung entered the top 30 of the men’s rankings to become the highest-ranked male South Korean tennis player of all time. Lee Hyung-taik previously held the record with a ranking of 36.
