Jeju Suffers Damage from Heavy Snow, Cold Weather

South Korea's Jeju Island is witnessing damage from continued heavy snow and cold weather. 

The local weather agency said that as of 8 a.m. Tuesday, Mount Halla received 99-point-five centimeters of snow, while Ara district in Jeju City received about 40 centimeters of snow.

Heavy snow warnings have been in place for the island's mountain areas since Saturday, with heavy snow advisories issued for the eastern and northern parts of the island.

A strong wind advisory issued for the island was lifted as of 6 a.m. Tuesday.

The continued heavy snow and cold snap caused significant damage to the island's agricultural facilities and farm products. 

According to Jeju City and Seogwipo City, 412 farms suffered damage from heavy snow and the cold weather which has continued from January ninth.
