Oystein Braaten Claims Gold in Ski Slopestyle

Norway’s Oystein Braaten won the men’s freestyle ski slopestyle event at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics on Sunday.

Braaten’s near-faultless opening run earned him a score of 95-point-00 which was not surpassed by any of his competitors during the event’s three rounds at Phoenix Park.

American Nick Goepper took the silver medal with a best score of 93-point-60, while Canadian Alex Beaulieu-Marchand narrowly claimed the bronze just ahead of Great Britain’s James Woods.

It was a high-quality final, with five of the 12 finalists achieving a best score of above 90 points.

Braaten’s win represents the first time that the 22 year-old has picked up an Olympic medal. The Norwegian finished tenth in the men’s freestyle ski slopestyle event at the Sochi Winter Olympics in 2014.
