Martin Fourcade Wins Biathlon to Claim 4th Olympic Gold

France’s Martin Fourcade won the men’s 15km mass start biathlon race at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics on Sunday.

Fourcade held off Simon Schempp of Germany in a sprint finish at the Alpensia Biathlon Centre to pick up his fourth Olympic gold. Norwegian Emil Hegle Svendsen took the bronze medal.

Fourcade thought he had been denied first place in the event, as he slammed one of his poles into the snow in frustration after finishing the race.

However, the photo finish revealed he had actually finished ahead of Schempp to claim the gold with a time of 35 minutes 47-point-three seconds.

Biathlon combines skiing and shooting. The men's 15km event features five laps of a 3km course and includes four shooting rounds.
