IIHF Hopes to See Another Joint Korean Ice Hockey Team at Beijing Olympics

The head of the International Ice Hockey Federation(IIHF) says he will push for a back-to-back Olympic entry for a joint women’s Korean ice hockey team following its debut at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

IIHF chief Rene Fasel announced the plan during a press conference at the Kwandong Hockey Center in Gangneung on Monday, expressing hope that a unified Korean team will continue to deliver the message of peace at the Beijing Winter Olympics.

The joint Korean women’s ice hockey team, created less than a month before the opening of the PyeongChang Olympics, lost all of its four matches so far held at the Winter Games, including three group round competitions and a classification game against Switzerland on Sunday.
